Handle is a robot that uses legs and wheels to provide highly agile and small-footprint material handling solutions for logistics. Using an active counterbalancing system, Handle can pick up and move cases weighing over 30lbs. Its versatile design allows it to tackle pallet building, depalletizing and truck unloading tasks in the warehouse – all in one robot.

Handle’s design combines the same dynamics, balance and mobile manipulation characteristics of quadruped or humanoid robots, but in a significantly simplified system. The combination of power and agility make Handle capable of automating difficult manipulation tasks in human-sized environments without the need for installing complicated additional equipment.

The author of this book has a BMSc, MSc in physics, and MBA from Tel Aviv University, Israel. In addition, he has one Ph.D. in chemical physics on dynamical quantum decoherence control and another Ph.D. in neurobiology on mathematical models of curiosity, both from the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. He was a postdoc at the Personal Robots Group in the Media Lab, MIT, researching how curious robots interact with curious children, where he also obtained a teaching certificate. He now heads the Curiosity Lab at Tel-Aviv University, Israel.
